Privacy notice
This is the notice for the live-development Members service. It is not yet approved for commercial production. The legal operator name, jurisdiction, and monitored privacy contact must be published before that promotion.
Information handled
We handle the identity and email made available by Clerk; your desk and cadence preferences; saved Tax News links; your membership plan and the features it includes, as Clerk states them; and limited security or abuse records. Card details are entered with the payment processor and never reach Simple Jacks. The public Tax News paper is a separate static service and does not load the Members identity runtime.
Why it is used
We use this information to authenticate you, keep your member desk, enforce plan access, secure the service, and respond to account closure. We do not sell member personal information.
Providers
Clerk processes identity, sessions, and membership billing, and uses Stripe to process payments. Convex stores member application data, and Vercel hosts the web application. While this is a development service, checkout runs on Clerk’s development gateway: only test cards are accepted and no real charge is made. Each provider processes information under its own service terms and security controls.
Retention and deletion
The in-product Delete account control removes saved reading, preferences, and then your sign-in. A minimal closure marker remains so a deleted account is not recreated. Security records may be kept as long as needed to protect the service.
If deleting the sign-in fails after your member data is removed, the closed-account screen lets you try again or sign out.
Your choices
You can change preferences, remove saved reading, sign out without deleting data, or use Account → Delete account. An account with a paid membership is deleted after the membership has ended. A dedicated privacy-request channel and a complete jurisdiction-specific rights procedure remain launch blockers and will be added before commercial production.
Anonymous product analytics is off until you allow it. It never receives Clerk or Convex identity, email, account data, form values, or query strings. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track override an earlier choice.
Security and changes
Provider secrets remain server-side, and access to members-only sites is refused whenever a session cannot be verified. No system is perfectly secure. We will update this notice when the service, providers, or legal basis changes and will revise the effective date above.
